Okoe Vanderpuije, Adjiri Blankson believed in the ‘City Hall’ project- Mayor commends Predecessors

The Mayor of Accra Hon. Mohammed Adjei Sowah has commended his predecessors Hon. Stanley Adjiri Blankson and the immediate past Mayor of Accra, Hon. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije for their commitments towards the construction of the Assembly’s New City Hall.

According to him, he came to meet a project that was fifty percent (50%) complete, an evident of many years of focus and continuity by former Mayors of Accra.

The Mayor made this known on Wednesday when President Akufo-Addo commissioned the Assembly’s ultra-modern office complex located in the commercial enclave of the city.

He clarified that the idea for a befitting office for the Assembly was initially conceived, by Hon. Stanley Adjiri Blankson adding that the immediate past Mayor of Accra, Hon. Okoe Vanderpuije believed in the vision and continued with the project.

“From the days of Hon. Nat Nunoo Amarteifio who initiated the processes for securing this land by moving an office of the Assembly into the then foodstuff market. It is important to place on record, that the edifice that is being commissioned today was conceived, funding facility arranged, signed and sealed by Hon Stanley Adjiri Blankson. The immediate past Mayor of Accra, Hon. Okoe Vanderpuije saw the need to continue with the project”. He said.

He noted that to immortalize the contributions of the former Mayors towards the construction of the new city hall, meeting rooms have been named after them as well as other prominent citizens of Accra such Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omadru, the first Assembly Woman, Naa Awula and E.C. Quaye, first Presiding Member of Accra City Council.

He pointed out that he also ensure that the new edifice had to be completed in record time to ensure that the AMA took its pride of place by having a presence that befits the status of a Metropolitan Assembly.

“This was to ensure there is a conducive working environment for staff and to position the AMA as an open, modern, service oriented Assembly that does not appear to be hiding away in a corner and from its responsibilities but presents itself as a representation of the aspirations of the people of Accra to build itself into a safe, smart, resilient and sustainable city”. He explained.

He assured that the AMA was poised to lead in addressing the specific challenges of a developing city where informality and rapid urbanization can be fused through a well thought through plan and a structured development agenda.

Constructed by Dream Reality, the AMA new office complex is disability friendly and can boast of  ancillary facilities such as a 300 capacity conference room, meeting rooms, cafeteria, landscaping (greening) and a 200 capacity car park.
