Oko-Boye’s nomination as Deputy Minister for Health receives Parliament full Approval


Parliament of Ghana, without any suspicion or doubts, has approved the nomination of Dr. Bernard Oko-Boye, as Deputy Minister for Health to assist the government with his expertise in health care delivery.

The Appointment Committee of Parliament, upon taking him through the vetting process, made their recommendation to the House for the approval of the President’s nomination without any further delay.

Presenting the Committee’s report, the Chairman of the Appointment Committee who is also the First Deputy Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu, indicated that the Committee has duly considered the nomination of the President in line with the Constitution of Ghana, and recommends him for approval by consensus.

The Minority Leader and Ranking Member on the Appointment Committee, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, also indicated that Dr. Okoe Boye, who is currently the Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku Constituency, demonstrates commitment to the health sector and matters of national concern, anytime he made a contribution on the floor of the House.

According to the Leader, Dr. Oko-Boye seems promising and has acquitted himself honourably at the Committee level during his vetting,  and truly deserved an approval to contribute his quota to the Health sector.

The Minority Leader also called on the substantive Minister to make good use of the nominee’s expertise by readily engaging him in the activities of the Ministry.

On his part, the Majority Leader and Leader of Government business, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, also described the Ledzokuku Legislator as an epitome of an up and coming Member of Parliament who has distinguished and acquitted himself adequately.

“Mr. Speaker, the reason his appointment is not raising any eyebrows at this point of the government is because it is very meritorious. He would bring value to the Ministry and expand his own frontiers”. The Majority Leader acknowledged.

The Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who is also a member of the Appointments Committee commended the Deputy Minister designate for his tenacity and competency for the Ministerial position.

He observed that the appointment by the President in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic was very timely and deserves to be commended.

The nominee who met all the requirements has proven to be passionate and competent medical professional with lots of expertise to bare on the country’s health sector, especially in this era of global pandemic.

Dr. Bernard Oko-Boye is currently the Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku Constituency, serves on the Parliamentary Committees on Health and Government Assurances and also the Board Chairman of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
