Law Enforcement Agencies To Deal With Law Breakers – Kofi Dzamesi

The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi, has indicated that any individual who tries to compromise the peace and celebration of the Homowo festival would be dealt with by the appropriate law enforcement agencies.

In response to a question by the Member for Odododiodioo Constituency, Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, on the steps taken by the National House of Chiefs in resolving the protracted chieftaincy disputes in Ga Mashie, Mr Dzamesi pointed out that it is the duty of citizens and natives of Ga Mashie to be law abiding and respect the rules that govern the area.

He added that the presumption of disputes occurring during Homowo celebration in Ga Mashie should not arise in the first place.

The Minister also cautioned that, if there is the inkling of any activity by certain persons to mar the beauty, sanctity and significance of the Homowo and other traditional festivals, such people would be brought before the law.

He disclosed that there is no matter before the National House of Chiefs for the adjudication on the cause or matter on the Ga Chieftaincy disputes and any issue relating to the Homowo festival.

Reiterating that the Ga Traditional Council and the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council have significant roles in the celebration of the Ga Homowo.

The Chieftaincy provisions in Article 272 of the 1992 Constitution and the Chieftaincy Act, 2008, Act 759, do not impliedly burden the National House of Chiefs to Superintend, supervise or control the celebration of traditional festivals. He added.
