Properties, buildings of encroachers on Quarry sites to be demolished- DCE cautions
The District Chief Executive for Afigya Kwabre South, Hon. Adu-Poku Christian, has warned encroachers on the various quarry sites within the district to either start moving from there or the assembly shall soon be forced to undertake a massive demolishing exercise in no time.
Speaking to this Reporter at a program held at the district assembly’s forecourt to account for the use of their “Quarry Development Fund”, he said they are fully ready with their Taskforce for the exercise.
According to him, government through Environmental Protection Agency, Minerals Commission and other concerned bodies have said at every quarry site, residents should be 500m radius away from the site but his people seem not to respect that and rather some have built their houses on the rocks which puts their own lives in danger.
Hon. Adu-Poku, confirmed that the district assembly is hugely benefiting from the fund and for that matter they won’t quietly watch some few selfish people destroy the quarry business.
On his part, the Deputy Chief Operations Officer of the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lft. Col. Dominic Ampomah, added that they (the military) use those sites for their training and due to that, the sites are very precious to them and with their intensiveness and the armories used like, bombs, guns and others, they see the residents (encroachers) live in serious danger.
He hinted that the military shall therefore join the district assembly in the demolishing exercise and during that time, they will show no mercy to anyone.
