Parliament to Launch an Award scheme to Honour Exceptional Lawmakers- Speaker hints
The Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, is set to unveil its first ever Award initiated by the Speaker of Parliament, to assess performances of Ministers and lawmakers participation in activities of Parliament.
Disclosing this to the media, Speaker Mike Oquaye, said the Leadership of Ghana’s Parliament will also be given awards for exceptional performance and contributions to legislative processes .
“We want to encourage them and for that matter, give an award to the person who has performed best as a minister in relations to Parliament”. Speaker Aaron Mike Oquaye, hinted.
The award scheme, according to him, will have the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC), the Speaker himself and his two Deputy Speakers, as consultants during the evaluation process.
He is also of the conviction that, the final decision by these three bodies (that’s the Media, the Speaker and his Deputies as well as the leadership) will be considered objective without any fear of favour.
“We have learnt something and by the end of the month, we will make sure we apply it. And that would be the Speaker’s own award, in consultation with the deputy Speakers and the Press Corps”. He noted.
He further disclosed that even at the committee stage, the House in its amendment of the Standing Orders, is going to make every committee sitting opened to the media and for the public to know what is happening, just like it happens in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sittings.
