Forgo Ofosu Ampofo as Party Chair; Or Lose 2020 Elections -NDC Cautioned

Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have been cautioned to forgo Mr. Ofosu Ampofo as the National Chairman of the party.

The Head Pastor of Hezekiah Apostolic Prayer Ministry-Accra, Apostle Kwabena Owusu Adjei, has said.

The NDC Chairman has come in for strong criticism after an audio in which he was allegedly inciting violence leaked.

The leaked audio purported to be the voice of Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo in a meeting with NDC communicators had him saying: “We’re going to take her [Chairperson of the Electoral Commission] to the cleaners.”

“As for the EC Chair, we must wage a relentless war on this EC Chair. Me, she doesn’t want to see my face,” Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo is alleged to have said.

In the audio, he also gave his blessing to the party communicators to insult the Most Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante, the Chairman of the National Peace Council.

“For the first time, I’ll endorse insulting the National Peace Council Chair,” he said.

The alleged meeting between Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo and NDC communicators was aimed at planning strategies ahead of the 2020 general election.

When the issue of the leaked tape went viral, the NDC described it as concocted and false.

A statement signed by Mr. Gyamfi and released by the party dismissed the authenticity of the said tape and accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and some members of the government of being the masterminds behind the tape.

The NDC, therefore, urged the public to disregard the said audio, which had gone viral, and “treat all of its content with the contempt it deserves”.

Subsequently Mr. Ampofo after reporting to the CID for investigations was formally arrested and was charged accordingly with a threat of harm, conspiracy to harm a public officer and proceeded to write his statement.

After that, he was granted bail in the sum of GH¢400,000 with two sureties.
In another part, he is again heard admitting that the NDC had a ballot box protection unit in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency during the by-election.

Given his revelation as a man of God today at a press briefing in Kumasi, Apostle Kwabena Owusu Adjei of Hezekiah Apostolic Prayer Ministry recalled that, at the party’s 27th anniversary thanksgiving service held at the Royal House International in Accra on Sunday 16th June,2019 which marked the 40th anniversary of the 1st public execution in Ghana after the ‘June 4th,1979 uprising’, the embattle Chairman Ofosu Ampofo was held saying, Pastors have called urging him to pray without ceasing in order to avert danger ahead of him.

According to Apostle, he is one of those pastors. He said on Tuesday 19th February, 2019 he sent a text message to Mr. Ofosu Ampofo which reads, “Chairman, I saw something yesterday. You will soon have to choose between resigning as a party Chairman or remain a lame Chairman”.

He said on Sunday 16th June, 2019, Mr. Ofosu replied saying “the battle is the Lord’s and the Lord will win it for me”.

But, in a side line interview with this reporter after the press briefing, Apostle Adjei insisted that, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo should resign and clear his name from the allegations of kidnappings, fire outbreaks in some market etc. to give the party fair chance of winning the 2020 election.
He added that, Mr. Ampofo has become liability to the NDC and a Jonah in the boat of NDC.

“Without your resignation as a party chairman, NDC can never win election. You will drop from 44%
the previous election to 33%. Refuse and you will testify the power of the Lord”, he stamped on it.

Furthermore he said, their opponent (NPP) will tied and mutilates them like CPP to remain
opposition to rot and former President John Dramani Mahama will be the last President of NDC in Ghana politics IF Chairman Ofosu Ampofo refuses to resign.
