NEIP Creates 18,000 Direct Jobs; Assists 1,350 Start-Ups and Small Businesses in 2 Years-2019 SONA reveals
The National Entrepreneurship Innovations Plan (NEIP), with Presidential support, have created over Eighteen Thousand direct jobs with One Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty (1,350) Start-ups and Small Businesses, benefiting from this special initiative of the government, under the business development and Entrepreneurship programme.
The NEIP programme which is designed to help grow and expand businesses, is expected to create about Thirty Thousand (30,000) direct jobs, of which over Eighteen thousand (18,000) jobs have already been created under the watch and collaborative effort of Mr. John Kumah (CEO) and supports from the President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Delivering the 2019, State of the Nation’s Address by the President of the Republic of Ghana, it was hinted, “ this is the first time in Ghana’s history that there has been a deliberate, systematic and coherent national support for start-ups and small businesses”.
It was also disclosed that beneficiaries under the Start-ups and Small businesses, received between Ten Thousand (GH¢10,000) and One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢100,000) each, at a special interest rate of 10%, instead of the average prevailing market rate of 26%.
Businesses, which benefitted from the NEIP programme includes Agribusiness and Agro-processing; information communication and technology; tourism and recreation; as well as sanitation and waste management.
Other beneficiaries were into Real Estate, Sports, food and beverages. Green and ecological businesses and Health were also not left out.
Existing Businesses or Already Established Businesses
Under the already established businesses, the President, also hinted that beneficiaries are receiving an amount of two hundred and thirty million Ghana Cedis (GH¢230 million), being disbursed among sixteen (16) companies under the stimulus package.
This has led to the creation of Eight Thousand, Five Hundred (8,500) to Ten Thousand (10,000) direct and indirect jobs respectively.
