Pressure group ‘Action for Justice’ have also threatened to demonstrate against government, should the Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Prof. Obiri Danso, be sacked due to the ongoing disturbances at the school.

“Action for Fair Justice will demonstrate naked against the government of Ghana, if Vice Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST), Professor Obiri Danso is sacked”. They threatened.

In an issued statement, they called on the President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, as well as the Ruler of Ashanti Kingdom Otumfour Nana Osei Tutu II and the Education Minister, Hon. Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to reconsider their decision, that is, if they have any intent to sack Prof. Obiri Danso, in relations to the unfortunate incident which occurred last Monday between students and the school authorities.

According to the group, the mixing of Female with male students in Katanga Hall, was not only decision taken by the Vice Chancellor Professor Obiri Danso, but was a decision made by the whole governing body of education.

Reiterating that students of KNUST disrespected the authorities of the school, including Otumfour Nana Osei Tutu II, the President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Others.

Students who embarked on the demonstration and destroyed properties of the school, they said, should be punished for all the casualties incurred to serve as a deterrent to others.

Background

Students of KNUST on Monday went on a rampage damaging school property during a protest, what they describe as unfair treatment by the university’s security guards.

The disturbances led to the immediate issuance of a curfew and an indefinite closure of the university.

Local students were also asked to pack out of the university by Tuesday, leaving only the international students who have been provided with security for their protection during their stay.
