I will Transform Agbogbloshie Market Within 60 days; if Given Control-Zoomlion CEO

The Chief Executive officer (CEO) of Zoomlion, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, has said when given total control of Agbogbloshie market within sixty (60) days, he will transform the place and free it from filth.

According to Dr. Agyepong, he will use the people in Agbogbloshie to change the system, since human beings are very easy to manage.

“If they know death is closer, they will change. No one want to die, lead a healthy life by keeping your surroundings clean”. He lamented.

In an interview with the media, Dr. Siaw Agyepong pointed out that the behaviour and attitude traders exhibit at their various homes, are the same kind they bring to the market.

“All we need is a complete solution by placing refuse bins around to collect refuse, sweeping of the place and enforcing sanitation sanctions, let’s have the fundamentals right.

We should also ensure that rules and procedures of every market are adhered to. He noted.

“The whole thing must end with one entity managing the place, you cannot stay here and sale in a dirty environment, you will fall sick everyday. You are inhaling toxics which will kill you gradually”. Mr. Siaw Agyepong added.

He made these remarks when the Sanitation and Water Resources Minister stormed Agbogbloshie market to join the early morning market exercise.

Mrs. Cecilia Abena Dapaah urged Zoomlion to make refuse bins available at the market, whiles the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Sanitation Coordinator was blaming Zoomlion for the filth at the market.

However, our investigations also reveal that the only duty of Zoomlion is to collect waste in the market, whiles AMA enforce laws in regards to sanitation at the market.
