Minister Fumes; As Market Women Sale in Filth

In her crusade to ensure that President Nana Akuffo-Addo’s dream of making Accra a cleaner city is achieved, Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Mrs. Cecilia Abena Dapaah stormed the Agbogbloshie market at the early hours of Friday.

Zoomlion sanitation workers teamed up with their counterpart, Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to clear woods that have been used to cover gutters which were choked with plastic waste and stench water.

As the exercise started 7:00am, it took the intervention of the Accra Mayor Mr. Adjei Sowah to help direct the heavy traffic that was becoming uncontrollable.

The Minister expressed disappointment as she witness most of the market women sitting comfortable in filth and going about their normal duties by selling to the public.

The Minister had to ask these vendors to clear the refuse, while others took to their heels after seeing her in the company of the Accra Mayor, Adjei Sowah, to actually escape the punishment of clearing the filth.

Mrs. Cecilia Dapaah revealed that her plans of getting Agbogbloshie market an ultra modern washroom might be put on hold, since the market worms are not prepared to keep the place neat, as they throw refuse anyhow.

“You should stop disgracing women. Why can’t you keep this place clean? I want to help but you people are not allowing me.

“You people are killing us. If the need be, we will have to sack all of you from here, you need to keep this place clean”. She lamented further

She however, called on Zoomlion representatives to do their best to provide them with dustbins, so that they could dump their refuse in it.
