A twenty-five (25) year old fisherman, Oko Boars, has been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court after he was charged with robbery and conspiring to commit robbery.
The Accused person pleaded ‘not guilty’ to both charges.
The facts of the case, as presented by the Prosecution, are that the Complainant is a Vehicle Inspector at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), residing at Tuba while the Accused lives at Oshiyie.
On 15th August, 2018, at about 6pm, the Complainant and his friend, Georgina Odoom, a witness in the case, visited the Kusum Beach at Bortianor to take photographs.
In the course, they saw three men trailing them and they quickened their steps to depart, but the accused and two others who are at large, chased them and accosted the Complainant who was carrying a lady’s bag containing three different brands of mobile phones, namely, Itel, Samsung and Infinix Hot.
The Accused and his accomplices ordered him to hand over the bag, but when he resisted, he was pushed into the Kusum river to get him suffocated.
The Complainant fought them fiercely and the two at large, drew out knives and attempted to stab him.
He was injured on the shoulder and the back of his neck.
The Complainant gave the bag out and the Accused person and his accomplices fled with it, leaving behind their sandals.
The said witness, Georgina Odoom, called in people to assist and the people collected the sandals and hid themselves nearby.
The Accused person and his accomplices later came back to pick up their sandals and the Accused person was arrested and handed over to the Police while the others escaped.
The Complainant made a report to the Police and a medical form was issued to him to attend a hospital for examination and treatment.
The case has been adjourned to 4th September, 2018.
