Energy Minister’s inability to provide Single intervention by Gov’t says it all-Hon. Mutawakilu
In a vast rebuttal and opposition to the earlier revelations of the Energy Minister on the floor of Parliament, Honorable Adam Mutawakilu, Member of Parliament for Damango and a ranking Member on the Energy Committee of Parliament on behalf of the Minority in Parliament disagreed with the Minister, stating that, the Minister failed to mention a single intervention the government has made so far in the energy sector.
According to him, the so-called prudent management of the sector by the Minister has resulted in the accumulation of Five Hundred Million Dollars ($500m) debt in the sector.
He said, the $4.50 gas tariff referred to by the Minister was just a proposal meant for renegotiation.
He also disclosed that, the government has just approved the BOT at $2.25 without greater economic analysis, whilst the NDC agreed to a maximum cost of $1.50 and asked for a re-submission.
The NDC increased generation capacity of the country beyond 4000 megawatt, adding 880 megawatt in 2016 alone, and so the government has not done enough in the area of renewable energy as is expected. Hon. MuMutawakilu had stated.
