Osu embarks on Massive Clean-up exercise ahead Of Mantsemei Royal Farewell


The Asofo groups (Youth) of Osu in the Greater Accra Region have embarked on a major clean-up exercise within the metropolis, especially the royal Mausoleum as part of preparations towards the Royal Farewell for departed Osu Mantsemei from 1916 to 1982.

The clean-up exercises by the various Asafo groups began early in the morning at the Royal mausoleum through to Owuowe Royal House, Dowuona Royal House and the Osu Mantse Palace with singing and drumming.

The spokes person of the stool Mr. Lawrence Quist appealed to the residents to fully participate towards the preparation and the ritual process to pay a befitting farewell to the departed Osu Mantsemei.

Briefing the media on the programme, the spoke person, Mr. Quist stated that the Royal Farewell will commence on 16th- 22nd October this year at the forecourt of Osu Palace, Dadebu-naa Osu Kinkawe.

According to him, there will be a traditional performance on Monday by the two ruling houses and fetching of water from the steam to the Osu Palace to commence the rites.

He said there will be a display of musketry at the forecourt of the Palace by the various Asofo (youth) groups with drumming and dancing, adding that on Thursday, performance of traditional rites and rituals will be held by the fetish priest and priestess as cows will be paraded in the Osu community.

He further stated that the main event is on Saturday October 21st 2017.
