The Founder and Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Hassan Ayariga has expressed an absolute disappointment on Dr. Edward Mahama’s acceptance of appointment by President Nana Akufo-Addo, as an Ambassador at Large in which he termed as an “Errand boy position” and requires the PNC to call Dr. Mahama to book.
The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Monday, July 10, 2017, announced his second batch of Ambassadorial postings at a ceremony at the Banquet Hall of the Jubilee House, which offered Dr. Edward Mahama who was the Flag bearer for the People’s National Convention (PNC) in the 2016 general elections, a newly created position as an Ambassador at Large.
This has raised concerns of Ghanaians, especially other political leaders in accessing this courtesy call paid on Dr. Edward Mahama by Government to serve under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.
Dr. Hassan Ayariga in an interview on Tuesday, July 11, told journalists that, such positions as Ambassador at Large, “like an errand boy thing” won’t work on him, if being offered one and has called on PNC to query Dr. Edward Mahama for accepting such a low and an embarrassing position.
“What I understand as Ambassador-at-Large is that, practically it means an errand person, like an errand boy to the President. President sends you anytime he wants…You are not even up to an aide, an aide is even much higher “. He noted.
Dr. Hassan Ayariga stated emphatically that, If Dr. Edward Mahama is comfortable with his new position as an errand boy to the President and believes that is how he wants to serve this country, then that’s well enough, but as for him (Ayariga), that position is not meant for him and will never ever accept it for any reason.
Dr. Ayariga has chide members and executives of the PNC to sit Dr. Edward Mahama down and ask him why he refused an offer in Kufuor’s regime to be a running mate but rather go in to be an ambassador, I mean an errand boy,” he reiterated.
PNC must query Dr. Mahama on his acceptance of the appointment as it does not augur well for it as a party. He added.
