GAF officiates an induction ceremony for new CDS, Chief of the Army Staff

The Chief of the Defence Staff, (CDS) Lieutenant General O.B Akwa and his Chief of the Army staff, Major General William Azure Ayamdo, on Sunday, May, 21, were officially inducted into office, following their appointment by the President of the Republic of Ghana and the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, when sworn into office few months ago.

The induction ceremony which was under the theme “The Spirit of Truth”, was held at the Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Church at the Burma Camp.

“On confirmation in our appointments, I was subsequently promoted to Lieutenant General on 28th April 2017 and I am so grateful to friends and family for their numerous goodwill messages and to paraphrase Sir Isaac Newton, “if we have seen a little further than others, It is because we have stood on the shoulders of our benefactors”.

“And to me and my Chief of the Army Staff, we extend to the President Nana Akufo-Addo, again a profound gratitude and appreciation for the honour done us and also pledge our unflinching loyalty to him and his government, and to work assiduously to justify the trust reposed in us” The new CDS has reiterated when addressing the dignitaries at his induction ceremony.

According to Lieutenant Akwa, it’s a matter of fact that, this is truly the nation we have been preserving these many years in relative peace, development and tranquility, and by the grace of God, we were spared the scourge of the Ebola pandemic.

“We have also been spared from major natural disasters and acts of terrorism that have engulfed other nations”
Adding that, Ghana has been endowed with abundant resources which can be used to exploit responsibly for our common good and so, we must learn how to handle our own affairs.

Personalities in attendance were the Minister of Defence, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul, the current Attorney General Miss. Gloria Afua Akuffo, various heads of the Ghana Armed forces and many other diplomatic corps were also there to mark this memorable ceremony.
