Activa donates Gh¢30,000 towards 42nd SWAG Awards


Activa International Insurance has presented a cheque of Gh¢30,000 to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) towards its 42nd awards night.

Mr. Solomon Lartey Managing Director of Activa International Insurance, who presented the cheque to the SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah said, SWAG awards means a lot to them not only because it has become the most credible awards scheme in the sporting industry, but also due to the fact that it offers them an opportunity as an insurance company to bring to the fore the essence of insurance in our nation building process.

He expressed that, insurance is a mechanism by which people or organizations can get security against unforeseen circumstances capable of yielding disastrous consequences like the May 9 disaster.

He said Activa has partnered with SWAG to show appreciation to our sports men and women who have soared in the various fields of endeavor to make our nation proud.

Mr. Kwabena Yeboah, President of SWAG said Activa Insurance is one of the leading insurance company in Africa which is keen to seek the welfare of Africans and operates in over 45 countries.

He said, this is the Fifth year that Activa is supporting the SWAG awards.

He said this year’s awards is packaged with attractive prizes to motivate our sport men and women in all sporting disciplines.

Mr. Yeboah prayed for May 9 tragedy which was marked for the 16th time, and hoped that such a disaster would never occur again.

He also adviced all sports men and women and the media at large and all Ghanaians to take insurance serious, recommending Activa International.

Present at the ceremony were former SWAG Presidents Hon. Joe Aggrey and Oheneba Charles.

This year’s awards takes place on May 27, 2017 at the Banquet Hall, State House.
About thirty individuals and institutions will be rewarded on the night for their outstanding performance in the year 2016.

Leading the list of nominees is Lightweight Boxer and World Boxing Organization Champion, Emmanuel Tagoe and Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) Match Coordinator Anthony Baffoe, vying for the Sports Personality of the Year.

Andre Dede Ayew of West Ham is also contesting for the SWAG Footballer of the Year against Solomon Asante of TP Mazembe and Daniel Amartey of Leicester City.

Also coming to Ghana for his best Kick boxer of the Year award is Lawrence Nyanyo Nmai who is based in Switzerland.

Derek Abrefa is also going for the best Table Tennis Player award.

The SWAG Awards remains the longest running sports event in Ghana, having been in existence in the 41 years.

Communication giants MTN Ghana, has been the headline sponsors of the event for the past eight years and have already announced a 42,000ghc sponsorship package for the event.
