Presiding member commends media, Gov’t policies to fight illegal mining
In relations to the media advocacy and government measures to help fight and eradicate illegal mining from the country, the illegal miners were given 21days ultimatum to pack their machines from their various sites due to it destructive nature of the work, it ends today, making it a ‘red Friday’.
In an interview with the Presiding Member [P.M] for Atwima Mponua district, Hon. Isaac Ohemeng Prempeh, since the place has also recorded maximum rate of the Galamsey operation in the region, stated that, the district has set up a task force in collaboration with the police to deal with illegal mining operators, commending the President for the wonderful job on decision to fight illegal mining activities.
He continued that, the lands and natural resources ministry needs to be commended by Ghanaians, adding that, the youth must also desist from illegal mining, since it leads to illiteracy and criminal activities.
Hon. Ohemeng Prempeh stated that, Ghanaians cannot afford to entertain the illegal mining activities, which has massive negative effects to our water bodies, natural resources, living and non living things, therefore, calling on individuals who think the government policies will have bad impartations in their lives to do away with it.
He concluded that, although, the government has not yet appointed MMDCEs’, but various coordinating directors and presiding members must help implement the policies by the ministry to completely eradicate illegal mining from the country.
