Dee J performs at “Step Up Show” launch
Hiplife Artiste, Dee J on Thursday put up a impressive performance, during the official launch of the “Step Up Show”, an inter- community talent contest, organised by Billy Jane Productions.
The Rapper thrilled the audience at the Labadi Beach Resort with his first single ‘Omiefu’ and yet to be released song ‘Ruler’, both on his upcoming album.
In an interview after his performance, he expressed concerns and waded into the recent alarming rate at which suicide is being recorded among the youth.
He was of the view that people were not interested in encouraging those who had lost hope in life, but rather enjoy being judgmental on these individuals who are already hurting, adding that “to me suicide is an attempt to escape an agony that has become unbearable, and so we must support such victims.
Dee J said he performed ruler, an inspirational song, to the audience to motivate them and as well show that, suicide could never be an option.
Speaking to Billy Jane, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Billy Jane Productions, noted the contest dubbed: “The Step Up Show”, is an initiative which will create a common platform for artistes of African origin exhibit their God-given talent.
“We are organizing this contest every Thursday night at the Billy Jane Restaurant and Bar, Labadi Beach; however we also host main stream artistes on Sundays, to entertain audience and as well build their fan base”, she added.
She disclosed that, areas in the suburbs of Accra will be selected whereby talents residing within these areas will contest each other, then the best performers will be selected and awarded with certificate and other prizes.
Billy Jane who further noted that, winners from all categories will be awarded in December at the finals; again added that, the show aims at exposing talents as such artistes will not pay any monies for participating.
She called on benevolent individuals and organisations to support the initiative, whereas, other performing artistes included; Kricket, Q-tee, Zeddy, Popson, and others.
