Don’t be intimated by xenophobic threats-MP calms Banda residents

The Member of Parliament for the Banda Constituency, also Minority Whip, Hon Ahmed Ibrahim has urged residents of Banda Ahenkro not to entertain any fear in the town following the xenophobic threat by a group of people in the area.

Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim gave this assurance when he visited some schools in the constituency which have been closed down as a result of threats by some youth of the area not to allow non-indigents of Banda Ahenkro work in the public institutions.

According to him, hearing these allegations of xenophobic threats is something new to him, however this is the first time such an unfortunate incident has occurred in the area.

“Had it not been this recent cases, I wouldn’t have known there has been a xenophobic attempt to sack non-indigents from any part of the 33communities in the district”. He stated.

“There has been cordial relationship between the local council, modern governance which is myself, traditional rulers and the school leadership which is why we are even struggling to get the community a Junior High School (JHS). So how on earth will any of us threaten the life of a teacher”. He asked.

Though, he said, I know accepting a post in areas like these, is sacrificial and demanding, due to lack of resources, but one thing we cannot put at risk is your lives. We can assure these teachers of their safety and comfort to be able to appreciate their call as teachers.

The police are taking steps to ensure safety in the area. With the enormous assistance of the Police, as well as the chiefs in Banda Ahenkro, I will do my best to bring those culprits behind these xenophobic threats to book. He emphasized.

On his part, the Omanhene of Banda, Nana Kwadwo Sito also gave a one week ultimatum to those behind the xenophobic threats to come out and apologize to the people of Banda and its 33communities.
