The chief of Doryumu, a suburb of the Shai-Osudoku district in the Eastern region of Ghana, Nene Adjartey Konor II, is calling on government to compensate the people of Doryumu, especially the Mineral and Forestry commission for the ongoing projects at the query sites on their land.

According to him, since the time of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, his village has been one of the main source and producers of marbles en gravels for construction of roads and major governmental projects, especially the construction of the Tema Harbour, for which he believes they deserve some royalties on that.

Speaking to Newslinegh, Nene Adjartey Konor II made this revelation during an interaction on the current state of Doryumu community after 2016 general elections.

” Even though our past traditional leaders were compensated but that is not enough due to the royalties given to the Mineral and Forestry Commission by private companies operating at the query sites whilst we the rightful owners do not benefit from it”, he lamented.

Nene Adjartey nonetheless, disclosed that, they need to be also compensated on the high tension mounted on their land by the Volta River Authority during President Rawlings term of office.

Stating that, though their past traditional leaders permitted the government to mount the high tension on their land, but they were cheated at the end with a little compensation and afterwards they do not get any recognition from the government.

He therefore used the opportunity to appeal to the current government to hear their plea and give them the royalties they deserve.
