We are battle ready: Not for War, but for Peacekeeping- Ghana Armed Forces

The Land Combat Firepower Demonstration which took place at the Bundase Training Camp, is an annual event where participants of this year’s edition includes the Minister of Defense Hon. Benjamin Kumbuor, Chief of the Defense staff Air Marshal M. Sampson-Oje and all Officers of the Armed Forces, including the Army, the Navy, the Air force and the special Force.
Weapons such as the AK47, the M16 A2 rifle, RPG which is a 40mm rocket launcher, the Machine gun which was first introduced into the Ghana Armed Forces in the year 1975 and also the most effective sectional weapon in the Infantry unit, were all put on display to mark the 2016 Land Combat firepower demo in preparedness geared towards the upcoming December general elections, as well as ensuring its core mandate and responsibility of protecting the country.
The 2016 firepower demonstration was categorized into four main parts, that’s the Static display, Ground description and orientation, the Tactical scenario and the conduct of the operation between the battle group and aggressor forces
In an interview with the General Officer of the Southern Command, Brigadier General Musa Whajah, Firepower demonstration is a combination of all the arms under the Ghana Armed Forces which comprises that of the Army, the Navy, the Air force and the Special Forces
According to Brigadier Musa Whajah, from the year January 2016, the Southern Command started to train individually in the various units under the Armed Forces and since it’s getting to the end of the year, they all came together to participate in what they call collective training which they term “the Land Combat Firepower Demonstration”.
The forces coming together to make this year’s event enormous is just a simple way of telling Ghanaians to be watchful and to stay out of trouble as the nation embarks on a journey of electing a deserving leader for the country.
This year’s event, He said, has been able to take our trainees through all the various aspects and concepts as practical framework to exploit as part of combat power lectures. This demonstration has indeed deepens their understanding as far as its tactical functions are concerned within a geographical framework of each fields and real operations.
It is our aim to work together in the field of peacekeeping, taking into account the various hotspots on the planet where confrontation exists and we assure Ghanaians of their safety as we are willing to assist the Police force to ensure peaceful and violent-free elections. He emphasized.
