*AS AXIM YOUTH ALIANCE ERECTS COMMUNITY TOWER
The youth and people of Axim in the Western Region have accused the aspiring New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for the area, Hon Catherine Afeku for her arrogance and insensitivity in relation to her feud with the community (from whom she seeks political power) on the relocation of her billboard which is impeding a development project ongoing.
The youth group asserted that, the member of Parliament is a member of the eminent people of the community, and thus is treated with respect and reverence, for which reason they sent her letters requesting the relocation of her billboard from the ‘Anto Radio Arc’ which is at the center of the town, and which was impeding the construction of the Anto Tower ahead of their Kundum festival.
Interestingly they said a family group was influenced to come out to claim ownership of the town’s main central road, which center holds the Anto Radio.
The Youth group of Axim, the Axim Youth Alliance has initiated numerous development projects in the two year of their existence. The Anto Radio Tower is one of the over fifteen development self-help projects undertaken by the group intended to relive the traditional relevance of the town and to beautify it.
The group alluded that all billboards in that spot had been taken off including that of the President which was relocated without any issue. All traders, artisans and individuals who sold around that particular arena were relocated without any issue.
The youth group however expressed surprise that in this election period when the aspiring member should rather be accommodative and receptive in order to win the admiration of the general citizenry, she has rather chosen the antagonistic way.
In an exclusive interview with Newslinegh, Hon. Catherine Afeku said “issues that bother the country is not billboards, but unemployment and high cost of living, etc”.
She later indicated that she has smoked the peace pipe with the community, especially given that the her good self, the Municipal Chief Executive and other opinion leaders to grace the inauguration of that same facility (the Anto Radio Tower) which was fully funded by the Axim Youth Alliance.
Speaking on the issue, the Municipal Chief Executive confirmed the impasse, but indicated that the Assembly has been asked to handle the issue administratively.
He therefore assured that the Assembly would ensure that the right thing is done, however through administrative means.
The Youth group however refuted the claims of the former Member of Parliament, adding that the stalemate still exists. They appealed that the Assembly acts on the matter to ensure peace and rule of law.
